Pinkwashing Workshop
July 9, 2016- 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm
About the workshop:
What is pinkwashing and what does it have to do with Palestine? Let’s talk about it. This workshop will introduce you to the basics of 100+ years of Palestinian struggle against Zionism and Israeli settler colonialism. We will be screening a movie called Pinkwashing Exposed, made by our friends in Duamish territories (also known as Seattle). After that, there will be a chance to discuss how Palestinian queers in Palestine are resisting Israeli pinkwashing, what’s happening here locally, and what we can all do to end pinkwashing.
About the facilitator:
Firas is a Palestinian and Syrian settler who lives on Coast Salish territories. They took a course on history of South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA) at school, and realized that it didn’t reflect any of their history. So they started doing their own research. For over seven years, they have been researching and reclaiming Palestinian history. They have learned from the work that queer Palestinians are doing back home to resist settler colonialism, pinkwashing and queer/transphobia. Inspired by their brilliance, Firas wants to share some of what they’ve taught them with you.
