Event: Have you taken a Compassionate Intervention Workshop? Participated in an allyship training? Are you working on anti-racism, decolonization, or trans-inclusion in your work or faith community? Wish you were better at knowing what to say or do when family, friends or strangers act in harmful ways, reinforcing systemic injustice? Join us for a no-experts, DIY “community of practice” where together we workshop and role-play different scenarios and interventions where we wish we had reacted differently.

Hosts: Salal + Cedar is a faith and environment community, our vocation is to grow the capacity of people of faith to act for ecological justice. We understand that systems of oppression–settler colonialism, racism, sexism, hetero-and cis-sexism and ableism–are connected to abuse of the land, plants and creatures. Anti-oppression work is environmental justic work.

Accessibility: Salal + Cedar strives to organize events that are accessible to all bodies, all ages, all genders and all families. The space has toys and a play area, when you register please let us know if you are bringing children and if childminding would make the event accessible for you. Heartwood is currently not fully accessible; washrooms are not accessible for wheelchairs and scooters. They have made an agreement with the neighbouring Starbucks, which allows Heartwood patrons to use their wheelchair and scooter accessible restrooms. Please note that Starbucks washrooms are not guaranteed to be scent-free.
For further information on Heartwood’s physical space, please check out the following accessibility audits done by the Radical Access Mapping Project.
