Ever want to learn how to make your own books? – those ones with the cool stitching on the spine that lie flat when you open them? Artist extraordinaire and Gallery Gachet associate member, Karen Ward, can teach you how! Please join us for a 3-hour bookbinding workshop.
Karen Ward lives in the Downtown Eastside and is an artist and activist. Her work often incorporates the stuff that other people throw away: it is a grassroots approach to art that feeds her political work, and of course vice versa. She saw her first letterpress almost twenty years ago, and did academic work on the history of printing and bookmaking. Much of Ward’s work involves using old forms in new and unexpected ways.
The full cost of the workshop is $40.00, and includes bookmaking supplies. Space is limited; you are best to RSVP in advance via Eventbrite (link above). If not all tickets are sold online, drop-in tickets will be sold at the studio.
If you would really like to take this workshop but cannot afford it, please contact us at WePressVancouver [at] gmail.com. We will definitely be offering this workshop again, and do provide workshops for free through Gallery Gachet, Carnegie Centre, and Oppenheimer Park. We try to accommodate as many people as we can!
