@efex2007 actually yea it will and it has in some sence, if it follows history, it will set of its big brother which is 10 times the size of Eyjafjallajokull.
@gerald1378 No, this was on an island, known as ‘Vestmanneyjar’ or ‘Heimaey’ . The one who’s exploding now is in Eyjafjallajökull, or underneath the glacier. But it’s not so far away though.
That’s insane. I’ve never seen a volcano before except Mt St Helens while in Portland Ore. My brother took me to the top of a hill where you could see it. But it was pretty far off. But i could see the smoke billowing out. It had calmed down by that time. I was there in 1981 about a year after it happened. Everyone in the area told me they had quakes in Portland.

WE studied this in Geology at university and how they were able to direct the lava in the bay using cold water.
is this in the same place as the one now 2010?
@PainterofYou not on;y did they stay, the lava flow threatened to close off the harbour, they villgers and fishermen pumped sea water onto the lava flow to try and redirect it. they succeeded in svaing the inlet.

omg i remember this,,,,i live there and like 2 in the morning my father was called and tolled to go help peopl. i was soooo scared ,,,, every animak and human was saved,,,exept a horse named pjakkur ;(
I remember this, they used firehoses and seawater to cool the leading edge of the lava flow to redirct the flow away from the town and the harbor, and it worked!
I spent 2 yrs in Keflavik from 80 to 82 and this type of thing is always going on somewhere on Iceland (Is’land as they spell it) besides the geysirs, mud pots, and mud more geothermal activity. Basically the island of Iceland is the build up of all the fissures that join in that area from the plates under the ocean. Beautiful place at times but more deadly with the volcanic activity and the long winters.
