Like our name suggests we do research in the public interest. In YOUR interest. About your city, your food and your environment. We have been a UVic based non-profit organization since 1983. We’re the only community based research group with secure funding on the island (and one of the few in Canada), working for students interests and advocating for the environment.

Some of the work we do includes giving out $30,000 in grants to students and community groups, employing 7 students a year, and we established the first recycling program on campus.

On December 5, 2016, a representative from VIPIRG presented to the UVSS board of directors seeking social media support for our annual conference. The UVSS Board approved this support and complimented VIPIRG’s rep on the presentation and gave him a copy of the agenda (with no amendments). They then went on to ammend the agenda after he left and passed a motion to run a referendum to strip VIPIRG of ALL its funding.

We need students to attend this meeting on December 12th (6pm, SUB Upper Lounge) to call the UVSS board out for its lack of transparency so we can save the jobs, resources and activism for students.
